The first thing that strikes listeners about Hamilton’s Gillian Nicola is the strength of her vocals. This rising singer/songwriter calls on influences of folk, rock and alt-country to bring a sound both unique to her and that honours her diverse taste. 2016 will see the release of Nicola’s sophomore EP, No Place to Call, which was produced and engineered by Dan Hosh (Whitehorse, City and Colour, Rose Cousins) at Catherine North Studios and mastered by Elliott Brood’s Stephen Pitkin. Nicola’s 2013 EP, Chasing the Wind was nominated at both the Toronto Independent Music Awards and the Hamilton Music Awards. Since then, Nicola has performed throughout Ontario at various notable venues and festivals, including the JUNOs Concert Series, was a Regional Finalist in the 2015 CBC Searchlight Competition, and has participated in the CIRAA Mentorship Program.
